WELCOME
The Minnesota Department of Education has approved Albert Lea Area Schools to operate an Online School in Minnesota. This school option is being offered for students in grades 4-12 within our school district and is named the Albert Lea Online Academy.
The Albert Lea Online Academy will be using an online learning platform designed for students who are self-motivated, enjoy learning in a virtual environment, and can advocate for themselves when needed. Courses are all provided through an online platform (Edgenuity) using video modules, reading for learning in the subject matter, journaling, and other online resources. Edgenuity teachers will guide students, check on their progress in the virtual lessons and assignments, and communicate updates to students/parents. Parents and guardians will be their student’s learning coach to ensure the child is attending and completing their daily work.Students in the Albert Lea Online Academy will be provided a Chromebook to access their virtual courses and be assisted in accessing the internet, via a Hotspot, as necessary. The school courses include access to select AP (Advanced Placement) and CTE (Career and Technical Education) Courses. Students participating in the Albert Lea Online Academy will also be able to access the district Music and Work-Based Learning programs (attending in-person Band, Choir, and/or Orchestra).
