I AM A TIGER HEAR ME ROAR!
WE ARE TIGERS, WE STAND FOR:
RESPECT, OWNERSHIP, ACCEPTANCE, READINESS.
On the very south edge of Albert Lea you will find Halverson Elementary, a beautiful one level building on 12 acres of land which includes a spacious playground and field area. Built in 1956, Halverson had the smallest gym of all the elementary schools. However, due to the passing of the May 2018 referendum, Halverson was the recipient of a gym and office addition in 2019. We love our new spaces and are very grateful to the community for supporting our schools and investing in our students!
Halverson’s Kindergarten - 5th grade enrollment is typically 300 - 350 students, as well as the capacity to serve 80 voluntary pre-Kindergarten students.
Halverson’s Mission is to promote high expectations that empower students to be lifelong learners in a safe and motivating environment while simultaneously supporting the district mission to ensure individual academic, social, and emotional growth that leads to engaged citizens and lifelong learners. Halverson is a professional learning community that values collaboration, compassion, flexibility and a human-centered approach to education. We believe it is important to engage in a safe, supportive and collaborative culture with colleagues. It is essential to determine a path for student learning that is based on the Minnesota State Standards and addresses individual student needs. We work diligently to provide effective teaching in every classroom with a guaranteed and viable curriculum. We strive to meet the needs of below level, on level and above grade level students through multi-tiered systems of support including but not limited to intervention in math and literacy, gifted and talented, multi language learner instruction and special education services.
Grounded in Responsive Classroom practices, we have a vision that our students will ROAR by showing: Respect, Ownership, Acceptance, Readiness! To accomplish this, Halverson Elementary staff and students focus on the importance of demonstrating ROAR Core in all school settings and in the community. Our district uses the Second Step curriculum to further support the social, emotional and behavioral well being of our students.
Other opportunities at Halverson provided student interest include: Prairie Fire Children's Theater, Destination Imagination, Math Masters, Science Fair, Battle of the Books, Young Authors Young Artist, Patrol Camp, Targeted Services (afterschool and summer programs), and various clubs.
