Kathy Niebuhr has been teaching in District 241 since 1986 and was the 2013 Teacher of the Year. She received her B.S. from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in Business and her Master of Science degree from Minnesota State University--Mankato in Educational Technology and her Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University--Mankato.
Kathy has served in a number of capacities with the Albert Lea Area Schools. Initially hired as a business and work program teacher, she also chaired the K-12 District Technology committee. She was the student dean at Brookside Middle School, and elementary media specialist at Halverson, Sibley and Lakeview Elementary Schools, as well as at Albert Lea High School. She was the district integrationist for two years. She served as an administrative intern at Albert Lea High School as the coordinator of secondary programming and the lead teacher at the Area Learning Center. Upon completion of her administrative licensure, she served in the position of the Director of Secondary Programs as well as the District Assessment Coordinator.
