WELCOME!
The Minnesota Department of Education has approved Albert Lea Area Schools to operate an Online School in Minnesota. This school option is being offered for students in grades 6-12 within our school district and is named the Albert Lea Online Academy.
The Albert Lea Online Academy will be partnering with Owatonna School District and Owatonna Online during the 2023-2024 school year for grades 6 - 12. Students continue to be enrolled through Albert Lea Area Schools as their home district and are then enrolled in the Owatonna Online Program. Students choosing the Online Academy should be self-motivated, enjoy learning in a virtual environment and have the ability to advocate for themselves. Parents and guardians will be their student’s learning coach to ensure the child is attending and completing coursework daily. The Online Academy follows the Owatonna School District Calendar. The first day of school is September 5, 2023 and the last day is June 5, 2024.

- If you are not able to attend Kindergarten Registration, please come to the Brookside Education main office, 7:00am-3:00pm, Monday through Friday.
- Families must complete a registration packet for each student entering Kindergarten, even if other siblings are currently enrolled. Please bring with you:

- Child's immunization records
- In Minnesota, children are eligible to attend kindergarten when they are five years old on or before September 1 of the calendar year when school starts.

Little Sprouts is an Early Learning preschool opportunity for your 3-5 year old. Children enrolled in this program are provided with a rich learning environment in which to explore and understand new concepts. Activities will focus on the child's social and emotional development, approaches to learning, language and literacy, creativity and the arts, cognitive development, and physical and motor development. No transportation is available. This class follows the district school calendar.
LITTLE LEARNERS

Together you and your child will explore a Pre-K classroom. The early childhood teacher and parent educator will provide various activities demonstrating how a child learns through play and how to enhance social-emotional skills. This is a great opportunity for children who will be 3-years-old after September 1 to still participate in a preschool class. Parents will have a one-hour session once a week on Thursdays with the parent educator on topics that matter to you.

ECFE will strengthen families and support the ability of all parents to provide the best possible environment for the healthy growth and development of their children. ECFE will provide a comprehensive curriculum based on best practices and research on early brain development and learning.

Children in this program are provided with a rich learning environment to build on skills they have been learning at home or at child care. These classroom experiences will build on the knowledge your child has already gained in their early years (birth-3 years). We will focus our attention on learning social-emotional skills such as how to express feelings and sharing; cognitive skills such as patterns and problem solving; getting creative with art, music, and dramatic play; literacy and language skills such as how to hold and read a book and recognition of numbers and letters; and enhancing fine and gross motor skills.
PRESCHOOL 4's - VOLUNTARY PREKINDERGARTEN (VPK)
Must be 4-years-old on or before September 1

Children in this program are provided with a rich learning environment to build on skills they have been learning. The focus will be on Kindergarten readiness, so children will enter Kindergarten with confidence in their skills. These classroom experiences will build on a student's skills and knowledge through social-emotional development, cognitive thinking, literacy and the arts, physical/motor development and growth, and approaches to learning.
*Note: Additional fees apply for students who are 5-years-old, have never attended VPK, and are eligible to start Kindergarten by September 1.
OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

Children in this program are provided with an outdoor classroom environment to explore the natural surroundings around the Brookside Education Center area. Activities are focused on the surroundings of nature and the outdoors through a curriculum. Students enrolled in this program will be outside most of the time, except in severe weather. Activities include a daily hike exploring the nature trails, digging in the sand pit, sledding in the winter, and learning more about the great outdoors.
