On the very south edge of Albert Lea you will find Halverson Elementary, a beautiful one level building on 12 acres of land which includes a spacious playground and field area. Built in 1956, Halverson has the smallest gym of all the elementary schools. However, due to the passing of the May 2018 referendum, Halverson will be the recipient of a gym and office addition this coming summer (2019).
Halverson serves approximately 340 students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade and also hosts a Voluntary Pre-K program which provides education to approximately 70 students. Halverson’s Mission is to promote high expectations that empower students in a safe and motivating environment to be lifelong learners. We have a Vision that our students will ROAR by showing: Respect, Ownership, Acceptance, Readiness!
Students receive core instruction in all content areas aligned with Minnesota State Standards as well as scheduled English Language Arts and Math WIN (What I Need) time on a daily basis. In addition to core academics, Halverson students experience reading intervention, multilingual learner and special education support on a daily basis, as well as Gifted Talented, Media Specialist and School Counselor instruction on a weekly basis. Students that meet criteria are also able to take advantage of Targeted Services Afterschool Program while others experience the value of Spanish Club, Coding Club and 4H. Other opportunities at Halverson include Prairie Fire Children's Theater, Destination Imagination, Math Masters, Science Fair, Young Authors Young Artist, Patrol Camp, as well as educational field trips at all grade levels.
Halverson teachers value collaboration. All teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities on a weekly basis and have committed to collaborative teams that are dedicated to meeting the needs of each and every student.
