Inclement Weather Instruction Plan
School districts in the State of Minnesota must have school for 165 days. The Albert Lea Area School District Calendar has 173 days for secondary students, and 172 days for Elementary students.
The Minnesota Department of Education allows school districts to utilize five E-Learning days in lieu of school due to inclement weather. These days count as regular days of instruction. Albert Lea Area Schools has used all of these days. We have also had one day of closed school with no E-learning.
The school district intends to continue with the use of up to five more E-Learning days to best meet the needs of our students during this severe winter. These additional days will not officially count as school days for the MDE, but will provide opportunities for our students to continue to learn. Though these days do not count as official days of instruction, our district will remain above the minimum number of days without having to add days to the end of the school year.
If the weather is so severe that we need more than the additional five E-learning days, the district will evaluate options as necessary.
