Tier 1 Critical Workers Child Care

Tier I Child Care

According to Executive Order #20-82, Albert Lea Area Schools will provide the child care for our students under the following circumstances:

The school-age care for children of critical workers is intended for extreme circumstances in which no parent or guardian is at home, as all of the parents or legal guardians in the child's household are Tier 1 critical workers.  If it is a two-parent household and one is not a critical worker, a school is not required to provide free school-age care to the family, but the school could choose to provide the care, if they have the capacity to do so while ensuring health and safety requirements can still be met.

Effective, December 7th, Albert Lea Area Schools will only be providing child care to Tier 1 families that meet these qualifications. During the week of November 30th, we ask that families provide a letter from their employer, or some proof of documentation (a badge etc…)  to validate their Tier 1 status for themselves, and if necessary their spouse.  Failure to provide documentation will result in loss of child care privileges.

Documentation can be brought to Hawthorne with the student or emailed to darci.rasmussen@alschools.org

Below is a list of qualified Tier 1 positions.

  • Healthcare and public health
  • Law Enforcement, public safety and first responders
  • Food and agriculture
  • Judicial Branch
  • National Guard
  • Educators and school staff providing in-person instruction or caring for children of critical workers
  • Child care and school-age providers

The Family Y is offering child care to families who are not Tier I, but still need child care.  Their phone number is 507-373-8228.
