Important Message

District 241 Families and Staff,

July 2021

As we begin to prepare for the 21-22 school year, we would like to share the following Covid-19 related information as families and staff make decisions about the upcoming school year. These procedures will go into effect on Monday, July 19th.

Masks:

Albert Lea Area Schools’ plan is to start the school year with masks RECOMMENDED for staff and students who are not fully vaccinated from Early Childhood through 12th grade. The district administration has confidence in this approach due to the large percentage of people in Minnesota that are vaccinated and the low positive case count in Freeborn County.

Mask wearing will be a choice of the individual employee, and we encourage families to make decisions based upon the best interest of their children. If the Covid19 virus begins to spread, the district may adjust this procedure at the building or district level as local conditions warrant.

Transportation:

Masks are still required on school buses, per the federal government regulations.

Quarantines:

The district will follow guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health for unvaccinated individuals exposed to a positive case. That guidance is currently seven days with a negative Covid19 PCR test and ten days without a test. Fully vaccinated individuals will not need to quarantine.

Vaccines:

For those individuals considering a vaccination, we encourage you to schedule a time as soon as possible to be fully vaccinated prior to the start of school.

Mayo Clinic Health System is conducting a free vaccine clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Times:

  • Tuesday 8-4:30
  • Thursday from 11-6:30

Students/parents and employees are encouraged to call for an appt (507) 434-9929, or they can schedule through Patient Online Services. In addition, vaccinations may be available at local pharmacies.

Online Academy:

Albert Lea Area Schools is still accepting applications for our online learning academy through August 1st. For more information, call 507-379-5153.
