October is Fire Prevention Month, and today we will welcomed members of the Albert Lea Fire Department to Early Learning. These visits are always a great opportunity for our students to connect with local professionals, learn important lifelong safety lessons, and meet some of the community members who work hard to keep us safe. Our students learned some safety information in the classroom followed by seeing the fire truck and how it operates on a beautiful Fall day. Thank you to the Albert Lea Fire Department for your visit today!!
On October 1st, our Early Childhood Family Education program hosted the 2026 ECFE Fall Festival from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Brookside Education Center. The event brought out support from around our community hosting an estimated 500 attendees. Donations from the DayBreaker Kiwanis, Renewal By Anderson, Cargill, Centos, along with books from a S.M.I.F. Grant enhanced this event making it possible for our community. Information from community resources were also available at the event. The Pony Rides from Horse'n Around out of Lyle, MN was a HUGE attraction as there was a constant line as children enjoyed free rides. It was a great night hosted by our ECFE Team!
Community Education, Experiential Education, and E.C.F.E. were all at the City of Albert Lea Safety Night. We were able to get ALPD and ALFD to pose with some of the preschool books E.C.F.E. was giving out related to their careers.. It was a great night distributing program information, educating on lifejacket safety, and giving our approximately 80 books to families.
We wish to thank Principal Adams for the invitation to the 2026 Hawthorne Resource Fair. They ordered up some amazing weather, delicious pizza, and had an amazing family turn-out for the event. Community Education appreciated being invited and brought new books to give out from ECFE, information about our upcoming Community Access Days from Experiential Education, program information from Adult Education, and our newly released Community Education books with enrichment opportunities for all ages.
Beth and Mary Jo are our Early Childhood Family Education Parent Educators and they are excited to share a new variety of classes with our community. The Fall Community Education Book arrived in mailboxes in the last week and is available on our website. The book has six pages of class opportunities and save-the-date information for our ECFE Fall Festival.
On August 12th, our Preschool Teachers spent a full day with Wil from Teaching Strategies as we learned about the 2026 version of the Creative Curriculum used in our classrooms. It was a great days of learning with a skilled presenter regarding this high-quality product to help our students learn. The engagement from our staff was outstanding and we look forward to how this will positively impact our students.
Our Albert Lea Bus Company and SAMRT Transit Bus provided busses for our Meet the Teacher days last week. We even were able to use a mini bus from the Albert Lea Bus Company for families to take student pictures at our event Thank you to both for your support of our programs and safe transportation of our students throughout the school year.

The Wall of Inspiration has been a part of Albert Lea High School since 2004, created by the Kuphal family to honor members of the school community who have inspired others to achieve more than they believed possible. The wall was established in memory of Josh Kuphal, an Albert Lea High School graduate who inspired many of his peers. Although Josh has passed away, his legacy endures through this meaningful tribute.
The motto of the wall is, 'Be the change you want to see.'
This motto serves as a guiding principle for living a life marked by kindness, generosity of time and energy, and selflessness — putting others before oneself.
Please consider nominating someone that has made a difference in our community!
